5 Benefits of Optical Bonding

Optical bonding is the process of connecting the touch sensors and cover glass to an LCD panel and other internal components of the device. This process is done to secure the two parts together to create a solid bond between them without any pockets of air or air gap in between the layers. Optical bonding has become an essential process since there are so many benefits, and here at Apollo Display Technologies, we’re experts!

Take a look at these important benefits that optical bonding provides for your screens:

Reduces Parallax Issues

Parallax issues, caused by light refraction making pixels appear to shift positions as you move your line of sight, are eliminated with optical bonding. The optical bonding process gets rid of the gap between the cover glass and LCD panel, creating a more accurate image.

Improved Touch Accuracy

Because optical bonding eliminates the air gap between the screen layers, there is also improved touch accuracy. With the reduction of the air gap, there is less space between where the finger touches the LCD panel, which registers the touch, making it more precise for a better functioning touch screen.

Brighter Visuals

Thanks to optical bonding, screens will have improved contrast, a brighter image, and provide a better viewing experience. The elimination of the internal refraction also allows for a larger viewing angle, helping the visuals be seen from wider angles.

Increased Durability

Durability is a crucial factor for any screen since they handle so much interaction. The optical bonding process helps protect both the LCD panel and cover glass from damage since the adhesive layer acts as a shock absorber. As well, if there is glass damaged, the glass shards will remain stuck to the adhesive, so there is a minimal risk of being cut.

Protection From Dust & Moisture

Dust and moisture can both find their way into electronics and cause serious issues, but with optical bonding, you’ll feel comfortable knowing your screens are protected. Condensation is unable to form in humid environments thanks to the protective layer, and in places where there are air quality issues, you don’t have to worry about small dust and dander particles getting in.

How Do Touch Screens Work?

Touch screens have been one of the most innovative technological creations in recent years. Not only do they make getting information to your fingertips easier than ever, but they are very simple for anyone to use.

Though we use touch screens all the time, many people don’t know how exactly they work; but we’re here to tell you! Many different technologies are being used and researched to create touch screens; the two most common are resistive and projected capacitive touch screens. Here’s what you need to know about these two touch screen types and how they work:

Resistive

When you touch a resistive touch screen, there are two electrically conductive layers, with spacers in between to keep them separated, that bend to touch one another when you push down. When you touch your finger, the electrical current running through changes and goes to where you’ve tapped, creating the touch capability and allowing the function that corresponds to that spot to be carried out. Resistive touch screens are consistent, but they can only handle one touch at a time, making them ideal for simple, quick use electronics.

Projected Capacitive

Unlike resistive ones that work based on pressure, causing the change in electricity flow, projected capacitive touch screens can have the flow of electricity altered by anything touching it that holds an electrical charge. This includes human skin since we are composed of atoms that have positive and negative charges!

Projected capacitive screens are made from conductive materials that store electrical charges, such as copper or indium tin oxide, to form a grid of transparent conductors. When a finger touches the screen, an electrical charge completes the circuit and leads to a voltage drop at the location of the touch, when the corresponding action to the spot is then applied.

How to Take Better Care of Your Electronics

We all spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on our trusty gadgets and electronics every year. And despite their cost and value of importance to our daily lives, many of us get careless and don’t give them the care and attention they need.

It’s essential to protect your investment to avoid a catastrophic break and having to spend more money. Luckily, with just a few simple changes to your electronic-care habits, you’ll feel at peace knowing you’re doing your part to protect your devices.

Here are some tips to help you keep your electronics safe and working properly for as long as possible:

Clean your electronics regularly.

We all use our cell phones, computers, laptops, and other electronic devices every day! You may not want to think about it, but germs are being transferred onto your devices and back to you (as well as others) with constant use. Luckily, it’s easy to clean your electronics and screens, but you must be careful.

To disinfect and clean your electronics, simply wipe them down with a dry microfiber cloth and a minimal amount of mild antibacterial hand soap. Antibacterial hand wipes will also do the trick; just remember always to be gentle!

Don’t eat or drink near your electronics.

You may think this is very simple, obvious advice, but think of all the times you’ve been eating with your laptop in front of you or your phone in your hand. Even if there wasn’t a major food mishap or spill, whenever you eat, small pieces of food and crumbs can find their way into small spaces of your electronics, such as your phone’s charging port or the keys of your keyboard. Always eat with your electronics out of the way.

Keep electronics out of reach from children or pets.

Don’t let your electronic devices get into the wrong hands, and by that, we mean the hands or paws of young children or your pets. They may accidentally knock over and seriously damage your electronics, leaving you with costly damage or in need of a replacement, so it’s best to be mindful about keeping them out of reach.

Protect your electronics battery life.

One of the most frustrating things about electronics is that they need to be charged! But, over time, battery life can decrease. You can help your electronics battery life by not overcharging, keeping them out of the heat, avoiding quick charging methods, and more. In the long run, you’ll be glad you were proactive about extending your electronics’ battery life.
