How to Take Better Care of Your Electronics

August 6, 2021

We all spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on our trusty gadgets and electronics every year. And despite their cost and value of importance to our daily lives, many of us get careless and don’t give them the care and attention they need.

It’s essential to protect your investment to avoid a catastrophic break and having to spend more money. Luckily, with just a few simple changes to your electronic-care habits, you’ll feel at peace knowing you’re doing your part to protect your devices.

Here are some tips to help you keep your electronics safe and working properly for as long as possible:

Clean your electronics regularly.

We all use our cell phones, computers, laptops, and other electronic devices every day! You may not want to think about it, but germs are being transferred onto your devices and back to you (as well as others) with constant use. Luckily, it’s easy to clean your electronics and screens, but you must be careful.

To disinfect and clean your electronics, simply wipe them down with a dry microfiber cloth and a minimal amount of mild antibacterial hand soap. Antibacterial hand wipes will also do the trick; just remember always to be gentle!

Don’t eat or drink near your electronics.

You may think this is very simple, obvious advice, but think of all the times you’ve been eating with your laptop in front of you or your phone in your hand. Even if there wasn’t a major food mishap or spill, whenever you eat, small pieces of food and crumbs can find their way into small spaces of your electronics, such as your phone’s charging port or the keys of your keyboard. Always eat with your electronics out of the way.

Keep electronics out of reach from children or pets.

Don’t let your electronic devices get into the wrong hands, and by that, we mean the hands or paws of young children or your pets. They may accidentally knock over and seriously damage your electronics, leaving you with costly damage or in need of a replacement, so it’s best to be mindful about keeping them out of reach.

Protect your electronics battery life.

One of the most frustrating things about electronics is that they need to be charged! But, over time, battery life can decrease. You can help your electronics battery life by not overcharging, keeping them out of the heat, avoiding quick charging methods, and more. In the long run, you’ll be glad you were proactive about extending your electronics’ battery life.
