5 Benefits of Optical Bonding

Optical bonding is the process of connecting the touch sensors and cover glass to an LCD panel and other internal components of the device. This process is done to secure the two parts together to create a solid bond between them without any pockets of air or air gap in between the layers. Optical bonding has become an essential process since there are so many benefits, and here at Apollo Display Technologies, we’re experts!

Take a look at these important benefits that optical bonding provides for your screens:

Reduces Parallax Issues

Parallax issues, caused by light refraction making pixels appear to shift positions as you move your line of sight, are eliminated with optical bonding. The optical bonding process gets rid of the gap between the cover glass and LCD panel, creating a more accurate image.

Improved Touch Accuracy

Because optical bonding eliminates the air gap between the screen layers, there is also improved touch accuracy. With the reduction of the air gap, there is less space between where the finger touches the LCD panel, which registers the touch, making it more precise for a better functioning touch screen.

Brighter Visuals

Thanks to optical bonding, screens will have improved contrast, a brighter image, and provide a better viewing experience. The elimination of the internal refraction also allows for a larger viewing angle, helping the visuals be seen from wider angles.

Increased Durability

Durability is a crucial factor for any screen since they handle so much interaction. The optical bonding process helps protect both the LCD panel and cover glass from damage since the adhesive layer acts as a shock absorber. As well, if there is glass damaged, the glass shards will remain stuck to the adhesive, so there is a minimal risk of being cut.

Protection From Dust & Moisture

Dust and moisture can both find their way into electronics and cause serious issues, but with optical bonding, you’ll feel comfortable knowing your screens are protected. Condensation is unable to form in humid environments thanks to the protective layer, and in places where there are air quality issues, you don’t have to worry about small dust and dander particles getting in.

How Do Touch Screens Work?

Touch screens have been one of the most innovative technological creations in recent years. Not only do they make getting information to your fingertips easier than ever, but they are very simple for anyone to use.

Though we use touch screens all the time, many people don’t know how exactly they work; but we’re here to tell you! Many different technologies are being used and researched to create touch screens; the two most common are resistive and projected capacitive touch screens. Here’s what you need to know about these two touch screen types and how they work:

Resistive

When you touch a resistive touch screen, there are two electrically conductive layers, with spacers in between to keep them separated, that bend to touch one another when you push down. When you touch your finger, the electrical current running through changes and goes to where you’ve tapped, creating the touch capability and allowing the function that corresponds to that spot to be carried out. Resistive touch screens are consistent, but they can only handle one touch at a time, making them ideal for simple, quick use electronics.

Projected Capacitive

Unlike resistive ones that work based on pressure, causing the change in electricity flow, projected capacitive touch screens can have the flow of electricity altered by anything touching it that holds an electrical charge. This includes human skin since we are composed of atoms that have positive and negative charges!

Projected capacitive screens are made from conductive materials that store electrical charges, such as copper or indium tin oxide, to form a grid of transparent conductors. When a finger touches the screen, an electrical charge completes the circuit and leads to a voltage drop at the location of the touch, when the corresponding action to the spot is then applied.

How to Take Better Care of Your Electronics

We all spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on our trusty gadgets and electronics every year. And despite their cost and value of importance to our daily lives, many of us get careless and don’t give them the care and attention they need.

It’s essential to protect your investment to avoid a catastrophic break and having to spend more money. Luckily, with just a few simple changes to your electronic-care habits, you’ll feel at peace knowing you’re doing your part to protect your devices.

Here are some tips to help you keep your electronics safe and working properly for as long as possible:

Clean your electronics regularly.

We all use our cell phones, computers, laptops, and other electronic devices every day! You may not want to think about it, but germs are being transferred onto your devices and back to you (as well as others) with constant use. Luckily, it’s easy to clean your electronics and screens, but you must be careful.

To disinfect and clean your electronics, simply wipe them down with a dry microfiber cloth and a minimal amount of mild antibacterial hand soap. Antibacterial hand wipes will also do the trick; just remember always to be gentle!

For more information on cleaning your devices, click here.

Don’t eat or drink near your electronics.

You may think this is very simple, obvious advice, but think of all the times you’ve been eating with your laptop in front of you or your phone in your hand. Even if there wasn’t a major food mishap or spill, whenever you eat, small pieces of food and crumbs can find their way into small spaces of your electronics, such as your phone’s charging port or the keys of your keyboard. Always eat with your electronics out of the way.

Keep electronics out of reach from children or pets.

Don’t let your electronic devices get into the wrong hands, and by that, we mean the hands or paws of young children or your pets. They may accidentally knock over and seriously damage your electronics, leaving you with costly damage or in need of a replacement, so it’s best to be mindful about keeping them out of reach.

Protect your electronics battery life.

One of the most frustrating things about electronics is that they need to be charged! But, over time, battery life can decrease. You can help your electronics battery life by not overcharging, keeping them out of the heat, avoiding quick charging methods, and more. In the long run, you’ll be glad you were proactive about extending your electronics’ battery life.

How To Save Battery Life For Your Electronics

A quickly drained battery from your electronic device can be a real annoyance and inconvenience if it means your device is unusable when you need it. This is something just about everyone deals with regarding their electronic devices, from smartphones to laptops and much more, so you’re not alone. Luckily, there are plenty of smart practices that will help keep your electronic devices’ battery life long and the battery itself healthy.

Take a look at these tips before plugging in your devices the next time they need a charge:

Don’t Over Charge The Battery

Ideally, you want to remove the charger from your device as soon as it’s fully charged. After its battery is full, devices left on a charger have to handle the extra current being fed to its battery, which is bad news. Over time, the battery will hold less and less of a charge due to damage if it is consistently overcharged.

Use The Right Charger

Amperage on each charger is different, and your electronic device needs the correct amperage, or the battery could be damaged. So, be sure to always use the right type of charger and always use the one provided by the manufacturer with your device.

Keep Your Devices Out of The Heat

Charging your electronics battery is best done in cooler temperatures since the charging process emits heat from the device. Be sure to also never leave your devices out in the heat or direct sunlight, as it can reduce the battery’s capacity.

Avoid Quick Charging Methods

Quick chargers may seem like a great idea if you’re in desperate need of a quick charge, but overall, these devices damage the battery. The constant current charging method increases the risk of overstepping the voltage limit of your device. In the long-term, the increased temperatures, higher voltage, and more produced by these quick chargers can permanently damage the battery.

How Do TFT Displays Work?

Here at Apollo Display Technologies, we’re experts at providing our customers with top-of-the-line, custom TFT displays to meet their business needs and goals. TFT displays are helpful to share information with employees, visitors, and customers and can be found in many stores, facilities, offices, and more. But how exactly do these TFT displays work? Well, we have the answers for you:

How TFT Displays work

TFT displays utilize both chemical and physical electrical properties to project visible imagery onto a screen. First, the electrical charge causes a molecular change for the liquid crystals allowing different wavelengths of back-light to pass through. Then, the back-light of bright white light or LED light is used to generate the picture.

The TFT panel, part of the display, has several layers of filters, including color filters, polarizing filters, and more that are optically bonded to glass panels for a tight seal and a clear, bright image. The filters determine how much light and which colors pass through and will be seen on the display. Thus, each display can be designed to match your needs.

How To Protect Your Electronics This Summer

Summer has officially arrived, and though you might be ready to embrace the heat and all that the season has to offer, your electronics aren’t thinking the same.

Just like how the heat may get to you after a while, your electronics will suffer too if you aren’t careful. And let’s face it, we all need our electronics to be there and working when we need them.

Here are some tips to ensure your electronics are safe and working correctly all summer long:

Allow For Airflow

Your electronics need some breathing room, especially during the summer, to keep cool. About 2-3 inches of ample space around your electronic devices to ensure that the vents are clear and unobstructed. The average electronics place their vents on the back, so be sure to take a look.

Avoid The Sun

There’s no doubt that during the summer months the temperatures are hot and the sun makes you feel it even more. Be conscious to avoid leaving electronics directly in the sunlight, or they will overheat quickly. Cooler areas are always ideal since electronics produce their own heat when they are on. Position your computers and other devices along the airflow path of a fan or air conditioner, and remember hot air rises, so the lower levels of your home are also ideal.

Don’t Stack Them

Since electronics produce their own heat as they function, stacking them on top of one another will only increase that heat. While your electronics are on shelves or tabletops, keep them distanced and don’t carry too many devices in a bag, and avoid enclosed spaces together.

Keep Them Clean

Taking the time to ensure your devices are clean can also help them keep cool in the heat. Dirt, dust, dander, and more can build up around your device’s vents and fans, which can lead them to break or not work correctly, leading to overheating. Try using a can of compressed air to help!

Protect Them From Summer Storms

Heat isn’t the only thing dangerous for your electronics; summer storms can also cause issues for your devices. You never know when a storm will roll in and cause surges to your electrical system, so it’s best to take necessary precautions. Be sure to save all your important files and data to a backup, shut down your devices at the end of the day or after use, and utilize surge protectors.

How To Choose Content For Your Video Wall

Take your business to the next level with a made-for-you video wall by Apollo Displays Technologies! Our video walls, composed of bright, durable display screens, can be customized to meet your business needs and goals. If you’re looking for something to help your storefront stand out from others, this might be just what you need.

So, now that you’ve invested in an Apollo Display Technologies video wall, it’s time to decide what content to showcase! Your new video wall gives you the opportunity to display whatever you want your customers to see; a perfect way to bring in new ones and have the old ones excited about returning. The team at Apollo Display’s has some ideas to get you started:

Create a Unified Display

One of the most effective strategies is to create a unified display, where the visuals are pieced together as a whole rather than put separately on individual screens. A video playing across your entire video wall is sure to attract eyes. But be considerate of how the screen’s black bars could disrupt your visuals, especially if there is text.

Build A Photo-Op Experience

Everyone loves a good photo, but taking the perfect picture with the right background can be challenging. Turn your video wall into a beautiful backdrop designed to be posed with or used as a background for photos. This will make your video wall and store interactive and intriguing for customers. Plus, if they share the image, they’re telling others about your store and the experience they had there!

Interactivity

If you want to take your custom video wall to the next level, try making it interactive! Customers will love feeling like they are part of your business and can create their own experience. This can include adding a continuously updated social media feed, games, product demonstrations, and more. This is especially beneficial if your screens have touch capabilities.

Get The Word Out

Think about what you want your audience to know about your products, services, and business. This is what you should be advertising across your video wall, so customers know exactly what to expect and why they should buy what you’re selling. Get creative, and utilize the entire space you are given. Remember that imagery is everything, and the visuals should always be cohesive and eye-catching.  Lastly, don’t forget about text; it should always be easy to read and make sense.

How To Prevent Condensation Build Up In Electronics

Our electronics are important to us, and it’s normal to want to ensure they are working correctly at all times, and nothing is preventing us from using them to their fullest potential. Fogging and condensation is a natural occurrence when there is excessive humidity or moisture in the air. When the moist air comes in contact with a cold surface, such as a window or screen, fog and condensation can build up.

Luckily with Apollo Display Technologies optical bonding, you won’t have to worry about your screens fogging up at all.

Utilize Optical Bonding

Optical bonding is a crucial process that consists of applying a thin layer of silicone adhesive gel to a glass screen or touchscreen, which is then attached to an LCD panel of a monitor. This process is done to secure the two together in order to create a solid bond without any pockets of air in between them.

One of the most important advantages of optical bonding is that it prevents any condensation build-up or fogging from occurring. Since the air gap between the panes of glass is eliminated with this process, no moisture can penetrate.

Other advantages of the optical bonding process include:

  • Greater durability
  • Better imaging
  • Improved touchscreen accuracy
  • Protection from dust and dirt particles
  • Higher contrast
  • Improved readability in in bright environments

VacuBond® Vacuum Bonding

When it comes to optical bonding, Apollo Display Technologies are leaders in the industry. With our own direct dry optical bonding process, VacuBond® Vacuum Bonding, you will feel comfortable knowing that all your display screens are protected against condensation, durable, and able to withstand harsh conditions.
