How High Temperatures Can Affect Your Electronics

No one likes feeling overheated, and that goes for electronics too. The summer heat is one of the main culprits to electronic devices overheating, but there are other things you can do that will cause your devices to get too hot. When any electronics are exposed to high heat, they can be severely damaged and become unreliable. Here’s what you need to know to protect your electronic devices:

How do High Temperatures Hurt Electronics?

When it comes to heat and electronics, the hotter the temperature, the less functional the electronic device will be. As well, when electronics run for long periods in high temperatures, the longevity and reliability of that device will decrease.

Cell phones and laptops have all dramatically decreased in size in recent years, making them more vulnerable to damage from overheating. The smaller size of electronics means their systems run with a higher heat density causing them to heat up much faster than ever before. While many companies try to include cooling systems in their products, they aren’t a match for the summer heat outside or the indoors when there is no air conditioning.

How Can I Prevent my Electronics From Overheating?

Here’s what you can do to make sure your electronic devices don’t overheat and get permanently damaged:

  • If there’s no air conditioning, don’t use your phone too much – If the power goes out in your home from a heatwave, playing on your phone might be your first choice of activity, but make sure to give your electronics a break and use them for short periods as they are hot too!
  • Don’t leave your electronics in a hot car – Temperatures inside vehicles can rise to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the outside temperature.
  • Avoid leaving your devices indirect sunlight – They’ll start to heat up very quickly!
  • Don’t store your device in a cramped area – Good airflow can help prevent overheating.
  • Keep your device and the area it’s stored clean – Dust, hair, and debris can easily clog the device’s vents and cause overheating.
  • If your device feels hot, give it a breakWhen an electronic device starts getting warmer than normal, stop using it and let it cool down with the system shut down.

How Touchscreen Technology Can Benefit Your Restaurant

The use of touchscreens to help businesses has been a common trend in recent years as technology continues to advance and improve our lives. Restaurants are just one of the many types of businesses that have been increasingly utilizing touchscreens for both employees and customers to use as a means of quicker, more efficient service.

Here’s how touchscreen technology can be used in restaurants:

Ordering

When it comes to customers ordering food, touchscreens can be very beneficial:

  • New items can easily be added to keep the menu always accurately updated
  • Orders can be easily customized to their specific liking
  • Images can help the customers decide what they want

  • Overall quicker service

Payment

Giving customers the power to pay on their own can be very beneficial to your restaurant:

  • Replace cashiers and have customers order and pay on their own to avoid mistakes and speed up the ordering process
  • Lessens the time customers are in the restaurant
  • Comfort for customers in handling the payment process themselves
  • Groups of people can easily divide the check or pay for their individual orders

Ways to Keep Your Computer Setup Clean

While many of us are enjoying or adjusting to our new home work setups, it’s important to remember how now, more than ever, is a great time to brush up on your cleaning habits. You’ll spend a lot of time on your computer, so make sure you’re keeping it neat, tidy, and most importantly, germ-free.

Cleaning Your Computer Monitor

Don’t just reach for the nearest spray cleaner because many of those products are great for windows or countertops but can damage your delicate computer monitor. You can purchase one of the many cleaners specifically designed for monitors or make a cleaner at home. Distilled water with some white vinegar is an easy at home cleaning solution to clean and get rid of any built-up grime on your computer monitors. Only use microfiber cloths, like what you would use when cleaning glasses, to clean your monitor as paper towels, rags, and other materials are too harsh. Make sure the monitor is off before you start cleaning!

Cleaning Your Keyboard

Your hands are all over your keyboard, so make sure to regularly clean it to eliminate any germs or bacteria that are hiding. Start by unplugging the keyboard and turning it over and lightly tapping out any loose crumbs, dust, or debris. Next, use a brush to get through the crevices of your keyboard. A toothbrush, baby bottle brush, and other small, delicate brushes you have at home all do the trick. Canned air is also a great tool to get into those nooks and crannies. To rid your keyboard of germs, use a rubbing alcohol wipe, or a disinfectant wipe and carefully wipe it down.

Maintaining a Neat Desk Space

Keeping your desk clean and tidy will give you peace of mind and help you feel less overwhelmed while you’re hard at work. Some tricks to keep your desk items tidy include:

  • Use velcro to mount items that aren’t being used on the wall or sides of your desk.
  • Upcycle containers to keep like items together, organized, and out of the way.
  • Bundle computer wires together with velcro, zip ties, or hooks to keep them out of the way.
  • Label your items, folders, and drawers.
  • Put items away after their use right away to avoid clutter.
  • Keep a trash bin nearby.
  • Minimize distractions with minimal personal items and only supplies that you use every day.

And don’t forget to use the appropriate disinfectant cleaner for your desktop and wipe it down regularly!

Tips for Successful Summer Digital Signage

The summer weather brings a lot of foot traffic out and about, making the need for outdoor signage more vital than before. Though the traditional print ad might catch a consumer or passerby’s eye, when you strategically place your digital signage, you can not only get the attention of the consumers you are looking for, you have more freedom of the messages you want to project too.

When it comes to your summer signs, here are a few things to always keep in mind:

Consider Foot Traffic

Are your signs easy to see if someone was walking on by? Does your message hold attention? Now is the time to think about where you place your messages and how often you change them. With digital signage, you can easily change your message daily or within minutes if need be, making it great for high traffic areas. You could potentially share a new message to locals every day, without waiting for the printers.

But Be Mindful of the Season

Depending on your location, you’ll want to keep rain and heat in mind. Be sure your signs are not always in direct sunlight. But be sure to pick a place that is adequately covered yet often accessed.

Consider Movement

A static message with bold imagery can help catch eyes, but what about a moving or ever-changing message? Not only will you stand out against the rest, but you are also more likely to get a consumer to stop, read, and possibly come in based on your modern display.

Tips to Protect Your Virtual Investment

No matter the number of digital supplies and signage you add to your company, it’s still an investment, and just like any other major purchase, you want to ensure you get your money’s worth. The best way to ensure you do just that is through proper care, especially when it comes to virtual technology. To avoid spending money on costly repairs, here’s what you should consider when it comes to your virtual purchases:

Invest in Extra Protection

From personal contact to daily wear and tear, your virtual signage can deal with many stressors, making it vital to provide the proper protection it needs to handle the impact. From vacuum bonding to prevent yellowing, to optical bonding to provide extra shock resistance, investing in these protective measures now can keep your investments working as they should for a very long time.

Consider Regular Cleaning

Routine cleanings can remove dirt and debris. Not only is a clean screen more appealing, but it can also prevent scratches and abrasions, that could occur with a dirty screen. Be sure that you are only cleaning with mild soap and drying with a nonabrasive cloth.

Inspect Them Regularly

Any nicks, scratches, or issues should be fixed before they lead to further damage. Be sure to look at your screens regularly to identify any problems that need repair. The smallest nick at the top of the screen can lead to a more significant break or even create an opportunity for air or moisture to get under the screen.
